Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, we answer some of the most common questions about Professr. Learn more about who we are, what we do and how we can help you.

What is Professr?

Founded in the UK, Professr is a community platform created exclusively for validated healthcare professionals to communicate and collaborate with each other across different disciplines, medical specialties and geographical borders.

The aim of the platform is to help support healthcare professionals and improve patient care.

Why does Professr exist?

Healthcare is a unique area, where factors like ethics, duty of care, confidentiality and altruism play an important role.

The NHS (National Health Service) in the UK is widely recognised as one of the best healthcare systems in the world, with the Mirror Mirror Report 2017 ranking it as number one. However, healthcare professionals working within the system are feeling increasingly undervalued and overstretched, with little support.

As an example, a Commons Health Select Committee report revealed about 29000 UK nurses left their profession in 2016-17. Nurses who took part in the study stated that they loved their jobs and cared passionately about what they do, but most cited working conditions (e.g. staffing levels, workload) and feeling undervalued as reasons for leaving.

And there are similar trends for other healthcare professions, especially among those from the EU who are now considering the impacts of Brexit.

For healthcare professionals who feel let down by system failures, due largely to under-resourcing and budget cuts, Professr aims to support those who care passionately about what they do by allowing them to build their own support network online.

How is Professr different to a social network?

The Professr platform is a closed community and not accessible by the general public.

Users must be healthcare professionals with a registration number that is validated with the local health authority in their country of practice.

Therefore, all users are appropriately qualified in their field of expertise and are expected to behave in a way that aligns with their respective professional codes of conduct.

Professr also offers a forum-style feature, where members can ask questions and receive answers from its cross-disciplinary healthcare community.

Why should I join the Professr community?

There are numerous studies that demonstrate the benefits of integrated care or multi-disciplinary approaches to healthcare. The NHS itself is moving towards an Integrated Care System (ICS) as a way of supporting a more collaborative working relationship between organisations across the healthcare sector.

The Professr community is made up of validated healthcare professionals from different disciplines and aims to encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences for the benefit of patients.

By joining the Professr community and participating in collaborative initiatives, the ultimate objective is to enhance the knowledge of members and improve patient outcomes.

With a forum-style feature, Professr also gives members the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from its healthcare community. This allows members to communicate and collaborate across medical disciplines and settings.

Are there any subscription fees or other costs for users? How is Professr funded?

There are no costs to users of Professr.

Professr is independently owned and was created without the investment of commercial organisations

It is a balanced platform with no ‘Return on Investment’ for any specific product, company, industry or government.

Therefore, the success of Professr is entirely dependent on its usage by healthcare professionals.

Without you, this system will not exist.

Why do I need to submit my professional registration details to Professr?

To gain access to the Professr community of registered healthcare professionals, your professional credentials must first be validated.

We do this by ensuring your details match those held on record by your local regulatory authority.

If you have any questions, or are a healthcare professional and are unable to access the platform, please fill in this form to contact us.

Why can’t I find my profession on your list?

Professr intends to make the platform available to all regulated healthcare professions, in a consistent manner across jurisdictions.

At this early stage, due to administrative resources and the differences in the regulation of healthcare professionals in different countries, we have had to limit the number of healthcare professions we are accommodating on the platform.

If you are from a health profession that is not listed on the sign-up page, but would still like to register, please enter your details on our pre-sign up form here.

We will collect information on how many individuals from a given profession are interested in accessing this community and use this data to prioritise health professions for access in the next stage of development.

Is Professr available to users from any country?

Currently, Professr is being launched in the UK and is on offer to UK-based healthcare professionals.

We intend to make the platform available to all regulated healthcare professions, in a consistent manner across jurisdictions.

Due to administrative resources and the differences in the regulation of healthcare professionals in other countries, we have had to limit the number of countries we are making this platform available in.

If you are from a country where Professr has not yet launched, but would still like to register, please enter your details on our pre-sign up form here.

We will collect information on how many individuals from a given country are interested in accessing this community and use this data to prioritise countries where we will make the platform available next.

Will my access to the community be blocked if I discontinue my registration as a healthcare professional?

While Professr requires validation of your healthcare professional registration status upon sign-up, we do not automatically deactivate your account if your registration expires, or if you become deregistered.

However, if you are reported by the community for inappropriate use of the platform, your registration status will be taken into consideration when investigating these reports.

How secure is my data? How will it be stored?

Security and confidentiality are two core principles underlying the development of the Professr community.

Although Professr does not run memberships or process financial information, Professr utilises SSL to encrypt all data to and from the site with 256-bit encryption.

User passwords are also stored via a one-way secure encrypted version that can be used for comparison upon login. We do not ever store passwords.

Regarding the storage of your data, Professr is hosted on a Level 1, PCI DSS and ISO 27001 certified data server.

ISO 27001 is a widely recognised international security management standard that specifies security management best practices and comprehensive security controls following the ISO 27002 best practice guidance.
